before jumping at me for bringing up old discussion do know the reason . Yesterday i went in to repair my laptop because it was not swicthing onn . the reason was that my battery was dead . i was using it more as a desktop than a laptop . the adapter could stay onn for 6 continuous hours . it had only been 18 months after the purchase . while setup the sales person said that most laptop wear due to continuous charge but this had a function to stop at 80% and again start at 20% . what he didn't mention was that the function will work only till warranty is available . warranty was only for 12 months . without notification the function had turned off and i continued with daily routine . now for the problem at hand . i had to learn the hard way the limits laptop battery . i did "google" it and found that every form is divided into half regarding this issue . i have a lenovo ideapad .

A) if what ppl are saying about modern batteries not needing attention then why OEM's are implementing one . ( every oem bas them under different name )
B) why the software is proprietary and under warranty .
c) i did find a solution but for Ubuntu from way long back . Why not for windows .

i can't keep replacing batteries because of the cost . Every country differs . they will need two working days to replace the battery because it needs come some warehouse . that's two days down the drain for me . i am being open minded so any method , information , suggestions are welcome . i am posting here because this is tech forum and someone will help me . my friend did recommend mac because it is one investment and hassle free working but i love win 7 .

@rohan5676 i have 2 customers here that have also a broke battery , these 2 ppl are also not buying a new battery because money issue...
So they leave the powerplug from the net in the laptop when they use it and the laptop is just working normal ...
So i would say do the same thing , leave it plugged in into the net, when you are not taking it with you .

thanks for the reply . yes i do seldom unplug it for presentation . the co-worker whom i mentioned did the same thing to his laptop . we couldn't find spares for him any where . Even service center representative said that " we have discontinued support for this series " . to a certain degree it was working fine until it started random restarts and bootloop flowed with atlast ending at BSOD . interruptions like this may obstruct work resulting in loss of money .

i am throwing this out there . they have a solution for small percentile ( Ubuntu users ) why not one for windows users . not saying complex gui stuff , i am seeing a lot of .exe replacement software . simple as them . thank you .

One common misconception that many have (even professionals) is how batteries really work. There are 2 factors mainly that can affect the lifespan of a battery. Lifecycle time and Numbers of recharge. The battery will start showing memory effects on whichever factor hits 1st.

Because all batteries are made out of chemicals (different kinds, or different variations for batteries and brands) all those chemicals do expire under a certain period of use. There are other factors that can accelerate or slow down this effect is like heat while working (for example laptops with high-end graphic cards and CPUs generate more heat than others) and environmental temperatures to name a few.

The weird part comes when we talk about recharge cycles. Each battery, especially the new ones, have a fixed amount of recharge times that they can do before they start showing "memory effects". In most cases that number is about 900 to 1000 tho reading the manual will tell you more about your own. Lower-quality batteries have a different number of recharge times than higher quality ones even at the same output.

In the past, because of older battery technology, you did need to do a recharge between 20% and 80% (for reasons I won't explain now cause the post will be long) but for the past 4-5 years, the batteries don't need that anymore, assuming those are new type of battery. You will be amazed at how many "new" laptops come with old type of batteries.

Some safe practices do still apply tho. If you plan to use your laptop as a desktop (always on power) remove the battery and just use it once every so often (20 to 35 days) and do a full discharge/recharge cycle. Remember that not all batteries are made the same and that's why you see variations in time. Keep your laptop cool if you plan to use it for long times by using a laptop cooler pad with fans and.. pray for the best.

Hope it helped.
