Hi, I wanna ask anyone of the folks here that still has a running netbook and have installed various OSes in there.
I have an old 2009 HP Mini 110 netbook, I just swapped the hard drive and wonder which Windows version would suit me the best, I wanna sell it to anyone else near my place soon since now I have a better laptop.
The specifications are:
10.1 screen with 1024x576 resolution
320GB Toshiba Hard Drive
2GB DDR2 RAM (maxed out, I can't add more)
1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 (0.5 MB Cache, 1Core/2Threads) 32bit only
It has a Windows XP Home original COA on the backside.

Well, before I swapped the hard drive, I've tried using Windows XP, 7, 8.1, and 10. Only windows 10 made it run sluggish. But I still can't decide which is the best for it. I'm considering either reinstalling Windows XP that came with it or go with Windows 7 Home Basic/Premium to avoid resource hog. Windows XP is unsupported by MS today and Google stopped updating Chrome for XP. Windows 7 has better software support and compatibility nowadays. 8.1 sadly can't run metro apps at that resolution (tweaking the resolution hurts my eyes) so doesn't worth it to install, and 10 although allows me to run metro apps, is sluggish.

Any thoughts to help me decide?

Last year I've had my fair share of headaches with an HP Mini 110. This small guy can only do 7 Starter or Home Premium at best. Forget about XP, you'll have a hard time with it. The poor performance is mostly caused by the hard drive. If you replace that with a 120GB SSD, it'll fly. You could also replace it with a brand new HDD (preferable 1TB) and still do fine.
Bottom line, Windows 7 Starter or Home Premium and it will work, but don't expect very smooth performance if your current HDD is old.

Well, my Toshiba HDD is much newer than the netbook itself. I replaced the HDD in 2012 when the original 160GB one died, replaced it with seagate 250GB and died again in 2014 after I resumed it from hibernation while I forgot that the battery didn't have enough power (so, basically power spike. But I wonder how could the power sensor allowed me to turn it on in the first place? That was on Windows XP and I kinda fear same thing would happen again by using XP). Luckily, the Seagate drive still had remaining warranty at that time so I went to the distributor to initiate RMA. They accepted my request and gave me the current 320GB Toshiba hdd. Well, I'm afraid this netbook price would still stay the same even after I put a much faster SSD inside. I want to sell it for like $85 or less, it's kinda hard to find a buyer for this kind of machine these days. But anyways, thank you for your suggestion. One question to ask, does Home Basic has some impacts (especially performance) compared to Home Premium? Microsoft allows sale of Home Basic in my country, and it allows people to change theme, just disables aero.

Thanks for your suggestion, I've tried those kind of slimmed-down builds once, I had so many problems because it was too slimmed down. So I guess I just have to pick proper Home Basic build.
