The default for Desktop, Downloads, etc storage on another drive
How to move already existing Desktop, Downloads, etc to another drive

We all know that the default storage drive for downloads, desktop, etc in Windows is c:\ drive...

Most of the people use smaller SSD drives for the OS and much cheaper and larger secondary HDDs for data

If that's your case - your SSD can be pretty full pretty quickly...

There are two solutions - for two different cases!

Here we go:

CASE no. 1

You have a fresh install of for e.g. Windows 10

1. Go to "Settings", "System"

2. Click "Storage"

3. Click "Change where new content is saved"

4. Choose another, larger, drive

CASE no. 2

You've already filled your c:\ drive
Well, just move them to another, larger drive!

1. On the larger drive create a new folder, for e.g Downloads

2. Open File Explorer, righ-click "Downloads"

3. Go to "Properties" - "Location" and click "Move"

4. Choose the destination folder you've created, click "Yes" and wait.

5. You can do this for "Desktop", "Document", "Pictures", etc.. Just note that you can do this only one at a time!

6. Of course you can revert the changes by clicking on "Restore defaults" - just left of the "Move" button

@tomeCar is a wizard of modding - I can't even begin to fathom his mods and tweaks... He is like a University professor and I'm an elementary school kid by comparison.
I any case I don't think that @tomeCar made any mistakes - he's just that good. Maybe, just maybe, you've done something... Installed some program that messed your system up, got a virus, IDK...
Sorry!

Bit of late reply I know but still maybe useful..
I have had this a number of times, usually find it being a fault with context menu, from some entry a third party program has put in there, never found it to be a microshit problem. (but dont just rule it out) I always use ShellExView from nirsoft to find and fix it...as you can turn off and on entry's within that program until you find the culprit and then remove entry.. has saved me few headaches over the years! give it a try.

Disaster recovery

I did move User Folders and after HHD failure, replaced the HHD with new one after formatting it. Now there is no Documents, Music, Videos .... folders any more. Windows give error message of missing Desktop (User folders) Folder on D: - How do I repair or revert to the default settings? Will want to move the User folders again there after.
Made new 'User' folders on new HHD and windows stop complaining but the folder are missing the .ini files to make it functional. Any registry entries and help will be great, thank you in advance:)
