On Windows 10 1803 with a fresh install (2nd install, thinking it would fix this) . Having an issue of file explorer folders not refreshing thumbnails. For example... have a single file in a folder, move it out of the folder and the thumbnail for the folder doesn't refresh. Instead it retains the thumbnail from that file and you have to hit F5. Same with taking the same file and placing into the empty folder (after hitting F5 and it showing it's now empty) and it continues showing empty till an F5 press.

Have looked through tons of tons of search results and tried many so called fixes... but the issue remains.

This is just a wild guess... have you ever hit CTRL+ALT+Delete...then find file explorer and restart it? Just wondering.

Yes and it refreshes folders like hitting F5, but doesn't fix the problem.

Hello, could this help? I did this with a similar problem on my Dell laptop and it worked. I googled this: folder not refreshing ....and this was on the first page of results.
1) Save your work before running this cmd
2) Right-click on START and choose CMD (As Admin)
3) Run this code:
set iconcache=%localappdata%\IconCache.db && ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache && taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F && del "%iconcache%" /A && del "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\iconcache*" /A && taskkill.exe /f /im explorer.exe && explorer
Good Luck :)

I have officially given up on fixing the issue. Seems to be a common problem going back as far as like 2009 or so with earlier Windows versions. Had already tried what you suggested a few days ago, but thanks for trying to help. I think I might have tried about every single so called fix there is and on my 5 reinstall attempted in just a couple of days and cannot get it fixed.

So I have tossed my hands up in disgust and have to deal with the problem.

Have you try this ?

1)in the Task Manager, kill the explorer.exe process
2) restart it again.
3) restore the default Explorer Settings.
To do so, open Folder Options and under the General tab, press Restore Defaults.
Click Apply and Exit
