Hotspot Shield is a popular public virtual private network (VPN) service, with over 650 million users and multiple servers in 55+ countries. By establishing an encrypted connection with the Hotspot Shield servers, the service protects its users' Internet traffic from eavesdropping. Hotspot Shield was used to bypassing government censorship during the Arab Spring protests in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya. One of the features that make Hotspot Shield special is its unique Catapult Hydra protocol, which maximizes connection speed without sacrificing security. Catapult Hydra protocol was designed to fix some of the latency issues in the IPsec and OpenVPN protocols that can reduce connection speeds.
