With regular Internet usage, The DNS cache stores the IP addresses of web servers that contain web pages which you have recently viewed.
Sometimes these will contain obsolete information or bad results and need to be cleared to improve communication with web servers.

NOTE: Complete these steps using an Administrator Account.
You will be typing prompts into the CMD console, so it is very important that you enter the commands Exactly as shown.

The following steps are specific to Windows PC users.
If you use a Mac, learn how to reset your DNS cache straight from Apple.

Windows 10

  1. Hold down the Windows Key and press X
  2. Click Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. When the command prompt opens
  4. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
  5. Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter
  6. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  7. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
  8. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
  9. Reboot your computer.

Windows 8.1
  1. Navigate to the desktop.
  2. Hold down the Windows key and press R. (This will open the Run dialogue.)
  3. Type cmd and press Enter. (This will open a command prompt.)
  4. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
  5. Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter
  6. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  7. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
  8. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
  9. Reboot the computer.

Windows 7

  1. Hold down the Windows key and press R. (This will open the Run dialogue.)
  2. Type cmd and press Enter. (This will open a command prompt.)
  3. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
  4. Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter.
  5. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  6. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
  7. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
  8. Reboot the computer.

Like the most of us, if you're into online gaming, surfing the Internet frequently, downloading / uploading data, watching movies online, Skyping, etc...
then flushing your DNS cache on a regular basis (weekly at least) can be one way to assist you in maintaining better communication / connection with the web servers.

The best definition I can come up with is , and yes, I used Google,

The ipconfig /registerdns
A command that refreshes all Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) address leases,
and it registers all related DNS names that the client computer configures and uses.

Release/Renew IP:

Expired IP addresses or other issues with a computer's current IP address lease are often the reason for network connectivity issues.
When you type "ipconfig /renew" into the command line, that command orders your DHCP client to renegotiate an IP address lease with the DHCP server on your router.

This will either renew your current local IP address with the router or get your computer a new local IP address if the router hasn't already re-assigned the current address.

netsh winsock reset

Its a specification that defines how Windows network software should access network services, especially TCP/IP.
Windows comes with Dynamic Link Library (DLL) called winsock.dll that implements the API and coordinates Windows programs and TCP/IP connections.
But sometimes Windows Sockets or Winsock may get corrupted as a result of which you may not be able to connect to the Internet. It may therefore need to be repaired.

That's pretty much it. It's not a cure all for network connectivity issues, but it could help eliminate this possible problem .

This was an excellent tip for me to use as I'm an avid on-line gamer. I'm starting to get the picture that @Mindsnake2 knew a few things about Windows that were shared with this community. I'll do my best to do the same.

@Mindsnake2 THANK YOU SO MUCH for this excellent tip and tutorial!

Right now I'm connected via phone mobile, but later today I will try this for my desktop PC.
My desktop PC is often online through my Verizon smartphone's "mobile hotspot" feature...
...after a while my web browsing slows down drastically- and it's not from my capped bandwidth
after using up my monthly data- it's from my cache filled with old and obsolete data. lol
As for my phone, I just delete old data and cookies, and then I reboot it and I'm running
good as new. Thanks again!

PS: I'm just stopping by the site to quickly browse and say Hi and see what's new.
After this I have to log out and go to bed, I must be at work in a few hours. lol
Cheers!
