Hi guys,

I have a big problem...

I have an HP desktop computer that has a severe problem with. I don't know the BIOS password (yes, it's BIOS not UEFI). Unlike any other normal BIOS'es, it lets me enter it but I can't change anything - so after three attempts, it doesn't show me the error code.
Of course, HP doesn't have support for this anymore - surprise, surprise.
Luckily the boot order is set up so the USB Flash drive is primary - so I can install Windows. Unluckily the boot order is set up so the USB Flash drive is primary so I have to unplug the flash drive, while WIn is restarting (it won't even let change the boot order by pressing F9)...
I want to sell this computer but can't in this condition.

This is the MB and BIOS in question:

Here is what I've tried so far:

1. Removed the CMOS battery over night (unpluged from AC of course) - cleared CMOS, but password remained...
2. Hard reseted CMOS on MB

EkOTd.jpg

- cleared CMOS, but password remained...

3. Used PC CMOS Cleaner - cleared CMOS, but password remained...

4. Used CMOS De-animator 3 - cleared CMOS, but password remained...

5. Used CmosPwd /k and IBios -i - cleared CMOS, but password remained...

6. Tried to find backdoor passwords - no luck

7. Used Hiren's Boot - searched for strings (crackers) - nothing, used BIOS Cracker 5.0 (blasters) - cleared CMOS, but password remained...

ALways this:

Tried to find help on HP's web support - no luck (sent them to h..l)

If anyone has any other idea, I would appreciate it immensely

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Please, please, don't reply if you mean to comment something like "it's so old - throw it away... Go to HP service shop..." etc..., I beg you. I've lost quite a lot of nerves with this as it is

And another thing - the next time I go near any HP desktop comp I'll be sure to have a crucifix and a bottle of holy water with me...

1. Insert a jumper whose purpose is to clear the CMOS memory, which is located on most motherboards, usually marked with the CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, CLR, PASSWORD, or PWD tag (use yellow puljku)...;
2. Some BIOS manufacturers put special keystroke combinations bypassing the password .... read (User's Guide)

Do you have model or Make of that HP Desktop?
The manual should have the layout of the board like CLR CMOS, CMOS jumper, CMOS reset button

In many of the HP machine there will be a button for resetting the BIOS password.
(Yellow One) Maybe? consult Motherboard Manual first to be safe
press down that button for 3 or 5 seconds will reset the BIOS.

@Nigrin Thanks m8, tried the Hard Reset - ("the yellow puljku" :)) - doesn't work. Thanks for the manula- I've downloaded it...

Update - A thought occured to me to try all those 3rd party programs in Win 7 32bit (which loads fine) in Safe Mode but it's stuck for an hour now at this:

@mkrleza hello buddy, maybe your hp bios has an option Stringent security (BIOS > Security > Password options > Stringent security)
If stringent security was enabled earlier and you forgot the password means, it is difficult to hard reset or soft reset the password, the only way is the motherboard would have to be replaced.

It seems to me that is the only solution - or to convince the buyer that the setup is OK - which it is for most users - Security boot disabled, first boot device USB Flash drive,... Thank you all!

EDIT - Nope! Stringent is Disabled!

@Admins - please leave this thread open for, IDK - a week, and if no answer is found you may close it. Thank you!

From the posts above its not clear if you tried it this way so apologies if you already did.

1. Shut down the PC
2. Locate the CLR pins
3. Remove Jumper from pin 1/2 (make sure you don't lose the jumper)
4. Start the PC (with jumper removed or placed in either pin 1 or 2 but not both)
4a. Wait till it passes the post screen
5. Shut down PC
6. Set jumper back to pin 1/2 and restart

You should be ready

Because there are a few different mobo revisions, if the above doesn't work, try this
Some mobos have the CLR jumpers as 1-3 and 2-4, shut down, set jumpers to 3-5 and 4-6, restart and post and then shut down, set back jumpers to 1-3 and 2-4 again.

Hope it helped.

Thanks for trying but there are no jumpers, only Hard Reset button (as you can see in the screenshot above). Thanks anyway!

EDIT - These are the only jumpers I can find...

There is (or must be) a password reset jumper. The switch you refer to only clears/reset CMOS.
Check this image and tell me if this is your mobo. I highlighted with red, the switch and the jumper location.
