Locked Problem with my portable harddisk

I have a 500Gb portable Harddisk.
Recently when I move/copy a file from my pc to port. Harddisk, the transfer rate is low (less<800kb).
But At first it was quick to use, now harddisk become so slow.
I ask google, get some answer & follow them, but don't get good result....
How can I meke it fast?

i would suggest a full format and scan your drive with this

if still running slow on transfers make sure your ports are uptodate and give your computer an overall clean and try again

Some external HDs specially the small form compact sometimes they run the slower 5200rpm disk and when you try to move large files it will choke.
i found this out on some of my older models. Also is your HD a 2.0 usb? usually you can tell when the end of the cable connection is black, the newer 3.0 versions are blue or yellow sometimes.

i would suggest try to move smaller files at a time and see if your speed increases or maybe try a different port on your computer or laptop and see if that helps out.

Hdd bootable hard disk clone software use its working slow but your all data will backup

Is it nearing full capacity? all hdd's degrade in performance when they get below 20% capacity left (most formatted drives for that matter, not just hdd's) ...

If it performs bad even after being formatted like hawkeye suggested, then perhaps that drive is becoming faulty and I wouldn't put anything important you wish to keep on it, make backup's asap if there is anything important to you on it.

People rarely get notice when hard drives decide to fall apart. Best of luck.
