Sophos UTM (Unified Threat Management) Firewall 9.5 Free Home Edition x86, x64

kTEkU.png

Sophos UTM Free Home Use Firewall is a fully equipped software version of the Sophos UTM firewall, available at no cost for home users – no strings attached. It features full Network, Web, Email and Web Application Security with VPN functionality and protects up to 50 IP addresses.

The Sophos UTM Free Home Use firewall contains its own operating system and will overwrite all data on the computer during the installation process. Therefore, a separate, dedicated computer is needed, which will change into a fully functional security appliance. Just right for the spare PC you have sitting in the corner!

- Increase your Internet Bandwidth - You can make easy use of multiple Internet connections at the same time, giving your home more bandwidth.

- Protect your Kids Web Surfing Habits - Use Web Filtering to stop sites from infecting you with viruses and spyware, keep your kids from surfing to bad sites, and get full reporting on the activity in your home.

- Solve your Spam Email Problems - Use Email Filtering to clean up your inbox and reduce the amount of spam you have to sift through using any POP3 or SMTP setup.

- Access your Home Network from Anywhere - Dial in using Road warrior VPN access to securely use Remote Desktop, transfer files, and even print, from anywhere in the world, even from your iPhone.

- Connect to Work or Friends - Create a permanent tunnel to other Unified devices, linking you with a friends network, or having the perfect encrypted link to your office Astaro to work from home!

- Stop Viruses in Web and Email - Dual Scanning Engines stop viruses in file downloads, email attachments, and embedded in web sites. Sophos catches them at the gateway, before they can get in to assault your computers.

Included is the Sophos UTM Quick-start Guide PDF

Processor - 1.5GHz Single-core (Dual-core recommended)

@marcopaone, Correct it requires 2 network cards. 1. for WebAdmin only interface for configuration plus (to avoid malicious attempts at gaining access to the WebAdmin) and the 2nd for DHCP+Internet Access.

I can safely say that is not a problem i encountered @milanrobi, are you giving the machine enough resources?

@Archeon
Yes Everything works fine but from one it all freezes and nothing works and I have enough resources only I do not know which problem why freezes everything for every linux so
I know it's not a problem in Linux, maybe it's a driver problem

@milanrobi, Hmm that is kind of unusual. during my testing i did not encounter any issues except for performance (which was adjusted via allocating more resources). My testing was done on a Virtual machine, are you installing to a dedicated non-virtual machine? This maybe a silly question but you also mentioned "ALL" linux distro's freeze? Is this not the only linux distro you have tried to install to this system? At which point is the system freezing? Before installing? After installing? does it freeze when you try to configure? or after you configure? any error codes? Can you press "F2" for more details when presented with the UTM screen? More information you can provide will help me try to test and diagnose your problem further :) SIDE NOTE: Please use for all screenshots in the future :)

@milanrobi, This sounds like an issue not with this system but ALL linux distributions you are trying to run and from that problem it could be a number of things, drivers seem to be the most obvious issues. With this particular firewall system you cannot install third-party or open-source software as it is a firewall and would present a MAJOR security issue if any repository or source files was modified in any way. As for installing a regular linux distro for example linux mint, you can go to additional drivers and search for any drivers that maybe not functioning correctly and instead use proprietary or open-source drivers for better compatibility. Sadly this sounds like a issue that is unresolvable for me, as the problem is likely with the hardware's compatibility.

I have 2 x separate Gigabit Ethernet cards built into my MOBO, if I were to find a suitable used computer, it is my main computer that needs to have 2 cards? It also has a remote partial ethernet card to use for a BMC chip which I bought but have never used, it was supposed to be installed when I had to replace my MOBO, will have to check it out. I never had a need to monitor my computer from afar, it also has one of those chips that hold 256-bit encryption codes for encrypting my whole computer if I want, that scares me a little though.LOL I know there are 2 working Intel Gb Ethernet cards though. LOL I would love to give this a try!
