I met this site by case, browsing for torrentdownloads.be and I must say it is fantastic! There is everything a Windows fanatic can find, from obsolete operating systems to revisions of old operating systems, passing through old OS softwares to be installed for new ones. However, Microsoft has never provided Windows Media Player 12 downloadable online. My WMP is corrupt and the only thing I could do is format it, but I'd lose all my apps. Is there an alternative way to format?

I have opened Windows Backup, but I need 380 GB free on the external hard disk and I have only 117. However, I have two other players: Cyberlink PowerDVD 19 and Mirillis Splash Video Player. Both, however, do not work with an integrated AMD card and also PowerDVD, in order to play Windows Media files, it still needs the Windows Media Player files. Furthermore, if Splash can play Full HD videos without problems even with the Intel card, PowerDVD necessarily needs the AMD card since the Full HD videos go jerky.

@kikorosa, of course you can get a version of Windows Media Player 12!

You can download it from the Microsoft site:

If you want a specific version for your operating system you must share accurate information that Windows has installed (including language, if it is home, pro, and if it is 32 or 64 bits).

BEFORE DOWNLOAD SOMETHING READ THIS GUIDE (you may not need to download anything to fix your problem):

That is another very good alternative since it reproduces almost all multimedia formats, including WMA and WMV.
Nor have I read anything about incompatibilities the integrated AMD card, which was another problem that the user commented regarding other programs.

I already installed the Windows Media Feature Pack, but that didn't help me. I would like to use Cyberlink PowerDVD or Mirillis Splash Video Player because it has automatic effects (VLC has them manually) for motion, detail boost, lights boost, noise reduction (PowerDVD only) and upscaling. My idea was to restore Windows Media Player for music and use Splash for non-VHS videos and PowerDVD for noisy VHS videos. I think the only solution is Windows Backup. So, I wish I could do one of these things:
1) Restore Windows Media Player without losing Kaspersky Anti-Virus (for 1 PC only), MatLab, MinGW, Java Develpment Kid and Smooth Video Project (purchased);
2) Have PowerDVD used with the AMD card, completely forgetting about Windows Media Player.

Just to mention why dont you do a Windows OS install and choose UPGRADE.. Everything will be saved and maybe WMP fixed..
Ive done this before with windows 10 countless times

I already installed the Windows Media Feature Pack, but that didn't help me.
Have you followed the guide that I shared to uninstall and reinstall WMP?
If it worked for you before, now it also has to work for you, it's like going back and installing a clean copy of WMP.

I think the only solution is Windows Backup.
What do you think will solve a backup of Windows?

So, I wish I could do one of these things:
1) Restore Windows Media Player without losing ........
The way to reinstall WMP correctly is the one I've shared in the guide.
Nothing will be lost for doing it.

I honestly don't understand what you want to do

I think @TheMacGyver's advice is right, try.

Windows Media player, to my knowledge, is included in most Windows versions (except Windows N and KN and LTSB) and there is no need to download it. All you need is go to your windows features and disable/reenable and will get fixed.

To do so, press Windows key + I to open Settings. Go to Apps > Manage optional features > Add a feature (or simply press start and type features)

Here is an alternative solution in case WMP still has issues

Google for SHARK007 codec pack, download and install. It has Universal codecs for all media apps and... you guessed it, it includes Media Player Classic which mimics WMP but it's a far better alternative and its less CPU/GPU intensive.

You can also google MPC-BE and/or MPC-HC and visit their respective sites. Its the Media Player Classic Variants with lots of goodies especially for older PCs.

I hope it helped you.

@juanamm The problem that Windows files are corrupt, therefore, does not solve the problem for me either the Windows Media Feature Pack, nor by uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player. To solve with Windows Backup I mean that I make a copy of Windows so that, once I have formatted it, I can recover the applications I need.

Ok, now we have an error message we can work with. I suspect you must have Windows Media plus. If so try this to fix this issue:
First, go to setting - apps, and features
look for "windows media plus"
Delete the app from the computer and windows media will probably work properly again.

About shark, it has its own media player called media player classic. You can use that instead of WMP.
Let us know how it went.

With Media Player Classic, Full HD videos jerky (like PowerDVD) even with an AMD card. I had already uninstalled Windows Media Player Plus. I try to install it.

Even installing Windows Media Player Plus does not solve the problem.
