Hi,

As I use Windows for decades, I am very surprised by the inability to move the taskbar to the sides. It is an absolutely necessary feature for productivity and I use it both at home and at work, especially for my videoconferences, and the courses I give to my students in computer training.

I saw a registry hack to get it on top, but nothing more. Does anyone have an ingenious solution to achieve this ? For lack of a solution, I will not use this new Windows 11 under any circumstances because of this essential feature for me.

I know all about W10. The topic is about Windows 11, not Windows 10.

Thank you for the tip, I did not know that WinAero fixed this. I'm not using the latest version of this software. But it looks like that bringing the taskbar to the left will bring issues, like it is indicated on the screenshot.

Well, it is not really fixed atm. Looking for a better fix later.

Open regedit go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\
then modify or create a DWORD 32-bit value named TaskbarAl
0 = Start button to Left corner OR 1 = Start button to Center

Use Start11, its out now. Its by stardock if you want to purchase it, OR, look around on Google, its out there in beta now.

Going to consider this solved and closed due to sufficient info given.

Windows 11 has moved the Start menu to the center of the screen, similar to the macOS. In this tutorial, we show you how you can easily move your Taskbar back to the left.
Right-click anywhere on the Taskbar and click on Taskbar settings.
Scroll down and click on Taskbar behaviors.
Look for Taskbar alignment near the top.
Click on the dropdown and click on Left.

If you are referring to the Start Menu in Windows 11 as @Mr. Spacely linked to, then all you have to do is install StartIsBack++ 2.9.15 or similar app. Then you will see a Start Menu in Windows 11. :nerd:
Fyi, that is what I installed in my Windows 11 Pro build earlier to bring back the start menu.
