Increase internet speed by 20% Without Any Software

Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes like
Windows Updates and interrogating your PC etc.
By unreserving this bandwidth, you can make your internet connection faster.
By 20%. The steps to be followed are:

1. Click Start then Run and type "gpedit.msc" without quotes.

2. Then go to Local Computer Policy>Computer Configuration>Administrative Templetes>Network>QoS Packet Scheduler. Click on QoS Packet Scheduler. In the right side , find Limit Reservable Bandwidth and double click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth.

3. It will say it is not configured but the truth is under the ‘Explain’ tab. Select ‘Enable’ and set reservable bandwidth to zero.

4. Click on ‘Apply’ and your internet speed will boost up by 20%.

@ dimmub ... have you even Tried it?

I tried this tweak yesterday afternoon, and it worked for me.
I'm using XP on an old laptop with WiFi connection.
I'm sharing my roommate's internet connection, she's connected via cable
(Roadrunner Turbo) and her boyfriend also uses Xbox3 and PS3 on her network;
and her mom often connects as well.
I'm logged into her network via WiFi using my USB wifi adapter.

After adjusting this tweak my connection seems a little faster.
My file downloads run much quicker now; and web pages fly quick as a breeze.
With all four of us at home online, I still get a faster connection after
trying this tweak.

Thanks to IGI30 for this awesome tip.

I always knew I could change settings and tweak things in the Group Policy panel,
but I hardly spend time going through everything there.
And there are some unfamiliar settings that I dare not mess with or else it
would render my system useless.

----------------------------

You should ALWAYS create a system restore point Before trying any tricks and tweaks.
And if it's worth the trouble, backup your system and files as well.
This way in case a tweak fails and crashes your system you can reboot into
Safe Mode, undo the tweak, and restore your system.
;)

This is a tweak that I've been using for years, and it works good. Still, thanks for posting it.:)

Ive tried this on my Windows 7 computer but when I type in gpedit.msc and hit ok I get an error message saying that it doesn't exist. Would love to try this so if anyone has any ideas that would be great.
Thanks

Type gpedit.msc on search bar on start menu and open the first result.
Tried this also and screen has...no results for your search request. Still not able to get to the screen to adjust setting.
Thanks again...any other ideas i might be able to try?

Finally got it! Had to download an installer that puts the gpedit.msc program in Windows 7 Home Premium because it doesn't come with it.
Thanks for all your help...and patience with guiding me along!

O.o
What OS are you using? If you are using Windows XP through Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 (I think) then you shouldn't have any problems finding it.

The other way to find it is Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy
. After double clicking 'Local Security Policy', then follow along with IGI30's instructions.

Hope this helps.
