Review
Mountain Duck is a nifty piece of software designed to make it a lot easier to manage user cloud storage accounts and FTP, SFTP, or WebDAV servers. It enables a user to mount them as local volumes and transfer files using Finder. Mountain Duck lets users effortlessly mount all essential servers and cloud storage as a local disk on a desktop. A user can open remote files with any application and work like on a local volume without synchronizing data. Based on the solid open-source foundation of Cyberduck, all significant protocols are supported to connect to just about any server user want, including FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, Microsoft Azure Cloud Storage, Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Google Drive, Dropbox, Backblaze B2 & OpenStack Swift. Transfer files using Finder to remote servers, fast.

The application is straightforward to use and runs smoothly, integrating itself in a context menu bar, allowing a user to connect and disconnect from various storage services quickly. Mountain Duck is especially useful if a user needs to manage multiple servers or cloud storage services at once, as switching between several interfaces can become confusing and hinder user workflow. Once a user has added them as bookmarks in Mountain Duck, they can be accessed just like any other local volume, so that Finder can be used whenever a user wants to browse their contents or copy files.

Mountain Duck does not limit a user to a single connection, as a user can add as many servers or cloud storage accounts as wish. Configuring each bookmark is not at all problematic, provided users know the server address and the required username and password. Bookmarks can be set and accessed from Mountain Duck's menu bar icon whenever the user wants to disconnect from a server, open its volume in Finder, or remove it altogether.

Moreover, the app displays a detailed history of all past connections and allows users to enable or disable Bonjour notifications. All in all, Mountain Duck is a handy utility that could prove to be invaluable for users who commonly manage multiple remote storage servers, as it enables a user to mount them as local volumes and browse their contents or transfer files using Finder.

Mountain Duck 3 released for Mac and Windows with support for smart synchronization
  • We are thrilled to announce the release of Mountain Duck 3 – the premier choice to mount server and cloud storage as a disk in Finder on macOS and the File Explorer on Windows.
  • Version 3 adds a smart synchronization feature to add offline support for Smart Synchronization. Files are synchronized to the local disk when opened to allow offline usage, and changes are uploaded in the background as soon as a connection is available. Dropbox-like experience with user preferred on-premise enterprise storage or cloud storage. With the additional option to choose which files and folders are available for offline use. Other data are visible but only stored as placeholders. These do not take up disk space on the computer and are downloaded on-demand only.
  • Badge icons in the Finder and Windows Explorer indicate the sync status of files – quickly assess if the data is only available when online or is synced to the user computer for offline editing. Synchronization with the remote storage is paused and resumed automatically depending on a user network connection. The application icon in the system tray animates when a background transfer is currently in progress.
  • Mountain Duck 3, combined with any cloud storage, is a viable, more secure solution to synchronize access to documents on multiple computers and users. Encryption for data at rest using Cryptomator interoperable vaults prevents unauthorized access regardless of the server or cloud storage infrastructure. Based on the solid open-source foundation of Cyberduck, all major protocols are supported to connect to just about any server user want.
