> Description <

NuttyBoot is designed to run diagnostic utilities from a flash drive / SD, various LiveCD / WinPE from ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD / EFI and to install and run operating systems Windows / Linux / UNIX from ISO images or WIM / IMG / VHD / EFI / HDD.

Installation on a USB flash drive / SD / USB-HDD

To do this, run TBMenuMini in Windows, select Image for Windows from the menu and perform in Image for Windows restore the NuttyBoot_1920x1080_v2.0.TBI or NuttyBoot_1024x768_v2.0.TBI archive to a flash drive / SD / USB-HDD with the Scale to Fit and Validate Byte options enabled -for-Byte . After TBI is restored, the flash drive will have two partitions. The first NTFS partition labeled NuttyFiles takes up almost the entire volume of the media, the second bootable FAT32 partition labeled NuttyBoot is 500 MiB in size. There are two versions of NuttyBoot_1920x1080_v2.0.TBI and NuttyBoot_1024x768_v2.0.TBI. They differ only in the initial screen resolution settings.

Legacy boot

The main bootloader is Grub4Dos. The Grub4Dos settings and user menu is located in the \ boot \ grub \ nutty.lst file under the NuttyBoot partition. From there, you can run Ventoy, Grub2 File Manager, BootIt Bare Metal, Image for Linux GUI, DRevitalize, MemTest86, etc. The default screen resolution is 1920x1080.

Ventoy Ventoy

settings are located in the \ ventoy \ ventoy.json file under the NuttyFiles section. In the control_legacy section, you can configure the folder for searching for ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD / EFI images, in the theme_legacy section, screen resolution, theme, etc. The default screen resolution is 1920x1080 and the theme is sweet.

Please note that by default Ventoy looks for ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD images in the \ images folder and its subfolders on the section labeled NuttyFiles. To exclude the search for ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD files in any subfolder from the \ images folder, create a file named .ventoyignore in this subfolder.

The Ventoy custom menu is located in the \ ventoy \ ventoy_user.cfg file under the NuttyFiles section. It is called by hotkey F7 or 7.

To correctly launch ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD / EFI images from Ventoy, it is required that:
- the section labeled NuttyFiles is the first in the MBR table
- the section labeled NuttyBoot is the second in the MBR table of

Grub2 File Manager

The Grub2 File Manager settings are located in the \ boot \ grubfm \ config file under the NuttyBoot section. Here you can specify the language, screen resolution, theme, etc. The default is en-US, the screen resolution is 1920x1080 and the theme is nutty.

The Grub2 File Manager custom menu is located in the \ boot \ grubfm \ grubfm_user.cfg file under the NuttyBoot partition. It is called by the hot key F7.

UEFI boot

The main boot manager in UEFI can be Grub4Dos UEFI, Ventoy, Grub2 File Manager, rEFInd or Clover. The default is Grub4Dos UEFI, but you can easily change it to any other.

Changing the main UEFI boot manager

Method One You can

change the main boot manager directly in Grub4Dos UEFI after starting the Change UEFI Boot Loader menu item. Similarly, this can be done from any other boot manager.

Second method

In addition, one more method of changing the main boot manager is supported. This is where a hot (soft) reboot is used. You need to run the EFI Shell menu item from any bootloader, type the name of the future main boot and press Enter. Valid names are ventoy, refind, grubfm, grub4dos, and clover.

If the operation is successful, then a hot reboot will occur automatically without prompting.

Grub4Dos UEFI

Settings and Custom Menu Grub4Dos UEFI is located in the \ EFI \ grub \ menu.lst file under the NuttyBoot partition. The default screen resolution is 1920x1080.

Ventoy Ventoy

settings are located in the \ ventoy \ ventoy.json file under the NuttyFiles section. In the control_uefi section, you can configure the folder for searching for ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD / EFI images, in the theme_uefi section, screen resolution, theme, etc. The default screen resolution is 1920x1080 and the theme is nutty.

Note that by default Ventoy looks for ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD / EFI in the \ images folder and its subfolders on the section labeled NuttyFiles. To exclude the search for ISO / WIM / IMG / VHD / EFI files in any subfolder from the \ images folder, create a file named .ventoyignore in this subfolder.

Refind

The Refind settings and custom menu are located in three files \ EFI \ BOOT \ refind.conf, \ EFI \ BOOT \ efiboots.conf and \ EFI \ BOOT \ efitools.conf under the NuttyBoot section.
Of these, \ EFI \ BOOT \ refind.conf is the main menu, the additional menu \ EFI \ BOOT \ efiboots.conf is launched when the Management UEFI Boot Loaders menu item is selected and controls UEFI boot managers, and the \ EFI \ BOOT \ efitools.conf menu is launched when selecting the Tools menu item to launch diagnostic and auxiliary utilities. To return to the main menu, select the Exit Refind icon.

In each of the CONF files, you can specify the size of the icons, screen resolution, theme, etc. The default screen resolution is 1920x1080 and the default theme.

Please note that NTFS / EXT2 / EXT4 drivers for file systems support and some others are disabled and are located in the \ EFI \ BOOT \ drivers_x64 \ off folder on the NuttyBoot partition. This was done deliberately so that there were no brakes when starting Refind, it would not be able to scan through all NTFS / EXT2 / EXT4 partitions when searching for operating systems. If required, move the required drivers to the \ EFI \ BOOT \ drivers_x64 folder.

The found OS will be located in front of the custom menu. To speed up the launch, the custom menu is tied to the NuttyBoot section label.

Clover

The settings and Clover custom menu and Clover custom menu are located in the \ EFI \ CLOVER \ config.plist file under the NuttyBoot section. Here you can specify the screen resolution, theme, which drivers not to use, etc. The default screen resolution is 1920x1080 and the theme is Neon:

Found OS will be located after the custom menu. To speed up the launch, the custom menu is tied to the NuttyBoot section label.

If necessary, you can exclude the required drivers from the DisableDrivers section of \ EFI \ CLOVER \ config.plist.

Also, if necessary, you can add the necessary file system drivers and others by moving them from the \ EFI \ CLOVER \ drivers \ off folder to the \ EFI \ CLOVER \ drivers \ UEFI folder. For example, to support NTFS and exFAT, you need to copy the files \ EFI \ CLOVER \ drivers \ off \ BIOS \ FileSystem \ GrubNTFS.efi and \ EFI \ CLOVER \ drivers \ off \ BIOS \ FileSystem \ GrubEXFAT.efi to \ EFI \ CLOVER \ drivers \ UEFI.

Run in UEFI with Secure Boot enabled
To successfully start in EFI with Secure Boot enabled, you need to add a user key to the MOK List, which is located under the path \ EFI \ enroll_this_key_in_mokmanager.cer on the NuttyBoot section. The method is not new, a similar method is used by distribution manufacturers when installing some Linux distributions on machines with Secure Boot enabled.

MOK stands for Machine Owner Key, meaning owner / user keys. MOK List is a repository for custom keys. Adding a custom key to the MOK List is done through the EFI utility MokManager.

This is a fast and completely secure operation and it is done once, when you first start it on a previously unknown machine with Secure Boot enabled. MokManager will be launched automatically on first launch in this case. If desired, a custom key (or several) added to the MOK List can then be easily removed via the EFI Key Tool utility.

for HP, Dell laptops
