Q4OS is a Debian-based desktop Linux distribution designed to offer classic-style user interface (Trinity) and simple accessories, and to serve stable APIs for complex third-party applications, such as Google Chrome, VirtualBox and development tools. The system is also very useful for virtual cloud environments due to its very low hardware requirements. Fast and powerful operating system based on the latest technologies while offering highly productive desktop environment. We focus on security, reliability, long-term stability and conservative integration of verified new features. System is distinguished by speed and very low hardware requirements, runs great on brand new machines as well as legacy computers. It is also very applicable for virtualization and cloud computing.

Q4OS Windows Installer(easy dual-boot setup):

Windows Installer instructions:(The installer may trigger a false positive virus detect. Ignore it.)
1. Introduction

The Windows installer allows you to install Q4OS alongside Windows in an easy way, you won't have to modify your existing Windows operating system, nor any of your software installed. Once you install Q4OS, you'll be able to switch back and forth between Windows and Q4OS each time you restart your computer. This installer is compatible with Windows 10, 8 or 7 versions and it's able to use Secure boot if available in the PC firmware.
We can recommend an excellent external website that describes Q4OS for Windows setup in detail for everyone, please read .
If your Windows becomes lagging, it's the right time to try Q4OS out, a lightweight, snappy and easy to use operating system with variety of applications available in repositories. Q4OS is not intended to be a replacement, but the perfect complement to an existing Windows installation.

2. Installation
At first, you need to download installer executable, file "q4os-winsetup.exe", from the downloads section of the Q4OS website. Launch it the usual way by double click from file manager, and follow instructions of a guide style installer. You will be asked to choose the storage space, this means how much storage you would like to assign for Q4OS in your Windows's drive. The installer will start downloading, extracting and expanding the target image file. Installation itself could take a time, from a minute up to an hour depending on the disk size selected, so please be patient. Once the installation process has finished, close the installer window and restart computer.

3. Secure boot setup
Once booted for the first time, you will be asked to enroll a MOK, Machine Owner Key, used for signing UEFI boot loaders. Please read the . Just proceed the steps from the link above to enroll the 'adminu_wubi.cer' key, see the complete key file path:
(ESP)/EFI/debian/wubildr/adminu_wubi.cer
Note, the '(ESP)' device, EFI System Partition, will vary by hardware. As the key is enrolled, Secure boot will allow you to boot Q4OS in a smooth and safe way.

4. Pull up boot menu
The UEFI version of installer installs Q4OS to the UEFI boot menu which means by default you won't see it when you boot your computer. Your computer will instead continue to boot into Windows and it will appear that nothing has in fact happened. To boot into Q4OS restart your computer and press the function key to pull up your boot menu. The following list provides the function keys for common computer manufacturers:
Acer - Esc, F9, F12
ASUS - Esc, F8
Compaq - Esc, F9
Dell - F12
EMachines - F12
HP - Esc, F9
Intel - F10
Lenovo - F8, F10, F12
NEC - F5
Packard Bell - F8
Samsung - Esc, F12
Sony - F11, F12
Toshiba - F12

You need to tap the function key straight away and before Windows boots. This will bring up a menu and you can choose to either boot into Windows or Q4OS. If you choose Q4OS from this menu then Q4OS will load and you can begin using and enjoying it.

5. Uninstallation
Just launch the "q4os-winsetup.exe" installer once again and the Q4OS uninstall wizard starts. The uninstaller removes the Q4OS installation completely, so your computer will be reverted into its original status as before installation.

I had a lot of fun switching between themes after installing "setup_xpq4_2.4-a2_all.esh".
Amazing how easy it was to jump through all the windows themes from early versions up to win10 which looked pretty good ,if you like that sort of thing.

XPQ4 - Windows look'n feel for your Q4OS desktop

The full version will download a load of proprietary icons but you can just go with the small version if you want.

Update. I did a fresh install of Q4OS on my Dell Inspiron 11 mini-laptop and was pleasantly surprised at how fast Q4OS runs on it. Even faster and smoother than Peppermint OS. Definitely a keeper
