Features
Rufus is a small utility that helps to format and create bootable USB flash drives faster than analogues. On the homepage, the results of tests are given,
according to which Rufus spends almost three times less time on pouring on the "whistle" of the Slackware distribution than the notorious UNetbootin.

The user can, if desired, align the partitions on the flash drive (Add Fixes for Old BIOSes, which is hidden in the format Options expandable menu).
If your machine is very old and does not detect a bootable USB drive, try to activate this option - it may help.


Possibilities
Checking the flash drive for bad blocks (writing data in several passes, from 1 to 4, by default - 2).
As for the creation of "boot" media, there are options: MS-DOS / FreeDOS (sewn into the utility itself) or SysLinux (a set of loaders of the "penguin" kernel).

NOTES on DOS support
If you create a bootable DOS disk and use a non-US keyboard layout, Rufus will attempt to select a keyboard layout
according to the localization of your system. In this case, it is recommended to choose FreeDOS (the default) because it supports more keyboard layouts than MS-DOS.


Notes on UEFI/GPT support
Starting with version 1.3.2, Rufus supports UEFI/GPT installation media, which means that it will allow you to install Windows 7,
Windows 8 or Linux in full UEFI/GPT mode. However, Windows Vista and later versions of Windows require full UEFI/GPT support.

Due to a limitation, Windows XP restricts the creation of boot disks in UEFI/MBR mode.


Rufus is useful when
