Winaero Tweaker is a universal tweaker software that supports Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. An all-encompassing piece of software supports a rich feature set and should be an excellent resource for users who want to be in full control of OS-linked details.
Users may enable an "Aero Lite" theme and colored title bars while also having the possibility of selecting custom accents. The program also lets the user adjust the horizontal and vertical spacing for icons as well as their font. Users can stop the OS from automatically looking for apps in the Store as well as ask it to disable downloads blocking or ditch the need to reboot after updates.
Other than that, the user can also disable the lock screen or find new images for it, hide the last login username, or opt to see logon info to know exactly who used PC. Enabling or disabling the administrator account is also possible using this program, which, a user should know, incorporates a series of security-related features too.
Winaero Tweaker is a powerful tool providing a user with the possibility of customizing OS’s appearance and reactions in all sorts of situations. - Change Windows Update behavior which is locked to "Install updates automatically" in Windows 10 Technical Preview;
- Enable the secret hidden experimental Date & Time pane which is not enabled by default in Windows 10 Technical Preview;
- Enable the secret hidden experimental Login Screen which is not enabled by default in Windows 10 Technical Preview;
- Switch between the old resizable Start menu and the new "Continuum" Start menu in Windows 10 Technical Preview.
Appearance options:
Aero Colors
- These options are inherited from the famous AeroTuner application and available for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. It allows changing many Aero related hidden secret parameters in Windows 7. Users can also sync the Aero color and the Start screen color in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. In Windows 8, it also includes "Enable Window Colorization" and "High Contrast Mode" hidden settings;
- Customize Shortcut Arrow;
- Customize or remove the shortcut overlay icon in Explorer. This will restart Explorer automatically;
- Customize Window Borders;
- Customize the size of the window frame. User can reduce or enlarge it;
- Slow down window animations;
- When enabled, the user can slow down window animations by pressing and holding the Shift key. This is the animation user see when minimizing, maximizing or closing a window;
- Sync Metro/Aero Color (Windows 8/Windows 8.1);
- Apply the color of the Start Screen to window borders and vice versa.
Operating system behavior options:
- Disable "Look for an app in the Store" Notification (Windows 8/Windows 8.1);
- Disable "Look for an app in the Store" option when an unknown file type is opened. When disabled, Windows will only show a dialog with apps installed on user PC;
- Disable Aero Shake;
- The Aero Shake feature minimizes all other background windows when you shake the active window. Here user can disable or enable it;
- Disable Aero Snap;
- Disable the window snapping behavior, that is, the resizing and repositioning of a window that happens when you drag it and touch the pointer to the left, top or right edges of the screen.;
- Disable New Apps Notification(Windows 8/Windows 8.1);
- Enable or disable the notification "You have new apps that can open this type of file" for newly installed apps.
Boot and Logon options:
- Disable Lock Screen (Windows 8/Windows 8.1);
- Disable the Lock Screen;
- Do not display last login user name;
- When enabled, Windows will not display the last user that successfully signed in on the Login screen;
- Enable CTRL + ALT + DEL logon requirement;
- Enable or disable the CTRL + ALT + DELETE sequence for logging on in Windows. This can require users to press CTRL+ALT+DELETE before logging on;
- Verbose Logon Messages;
- Enable or disable verbose sign-in status messages. Verbose status messages may be helpful when users are troubleshooting slow startup, shutdown, logon, or logoff behavior.
User accounts:
- Disable or Enable UAC;
- Enable or disable User Account Control (UAC) confirmations and prompts. Disabling UAC is not secure, but it makes Windows less annoying;
- Enable Built-in Administrator;
- The default account named "Administrator" remains disabled and hidden since Windows Vista. Here user can enable or disable the built-in Administrator account;
Pinning options (Windows 8/Windows 8.1):
- Enable "Pin To Start" for all files;
- Enable or disable the "Pin To Start" context menu command for all files and folders.
Network options:
- Enable Network Drives over UAC;
- Enable access to mapped Network Drives from elevated apps. By default, it is turned off, so any elevated app cannot access user mapped network drive;
- Enable TCP/IP Router;
- Enable or disable Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) forwarding to use with apps like OpenVPN. By default, TCP/IP forwarding is not enabled in Windows OS;
- System information;
- View information about PC hardware and OS including WEI score.
Note: The set of available options will depend on the operating system version user are running.

Fixed bugs:

- A fix for the 'Telemetry' option which could leave the service-disabled if you decided to re-enable this Windows 10 feature.
Changed behavior:
- The "Disable Defender" feature now warns the user about "Tamper Protection". If Tamper Protection is enabled, Windows Defender would not allow third-party apps to change its settings. If a user needs to disable Defender, the user must disable Tamper Protection first;
- Winaero Tweaker is no longer compiled with .NET 3.5. This change only affects some of Windows 7 users who have no .NET 4 installed. Once the user install .NET 4, Winaero Tweaker will work as usual;

- Hide pages of the Settings app;
- The code behind this option is shared with the Settings cascading menu option. Also, the list of pages is updated to the actual list of pages;
- Battery Life Estimated Time - Windows 10 will show a tooltip for the battery icon with the device's estimated battery life, expressed in hours and minutes, in addition to the percentage which is calculated in real-time;
- Repair Windows Image context menu - add a special entry to the Desktop context menu to repair the corrupted component store with one click when needed;
- Sfc Scannow Context Menu - add a special context menu entry to launch it directly with one click.
- Environment Variables Context Menu - add a special context menu, the user will be able to see and change them quickly;
- Add Classic Desktop Background to Control Panel;
- Add Classic Color and Appearance to Control Panel.
What is new in version 0.16.0.0 (Released on November 10, 2019):
Fixed bugs:
- App crashes when you type [ or ' in the search box;
- The "Make network computers visible" checkbox doesn't remember its state;
- The Open Windows Defender Settings button opens the Documents folder on 1909+;
- The Take Ownership command does not respect symbolic links (missing the /skipsl argument);
- The Windows Experience Index does not use separator defined in the user's regional settings.

- The search now includes the parent category's name, so user can quickly tell what tweak is going to open;
- The App mode/Windows mode context menu now has icons;
- Added a lower value limit to the number of simultaneously selected files in File Explorer. Setting it to 0 would break File Explorer, so Tweaker would not allow a user to harm the shell anymore.
New features:
- Automatic Registry backup
- Starting in Windows 1803, Microsoft has turned off the automatic registry backup feature by default, so the operating system doesn't create automatic backup copies of registry hives anymore. Winaero Tweaker allows you to re-enable this feature in order to have a working copy of the Windows 10 registry.
- Context menu
- The ability to remove the "Print" context menu command.
- The Edit context menu entry for images
- In modern Windows versions, File Explorer includes the Edit command in the context menu for images. If you right-click an image, and select Edit, the image will be opened in Microsoft Paint. Now you can change the app for the Edit command and replace it with an image editor of user choice using Winaero Tweaker.
- Restart the Start menu
- A new feature will allow you to add the "Restart the Start menu" context menu command to restart the Start menu process in recent Windows 10 versions.
- Project Display
- If a user has multiple displays or an external projector, a user might find it useful to add a special context menu to quickly switch mode for multiple displays in Windows 10.
- Advanced startup
- Users can create a special Desktop context menu to reboot the OS quickly and launch the Advanced Startup Options (troubleshooting options). This is very useful if the user has some issue that cannot fix in the regular Windows 10 environment, for example, a user may need to overwrite or delete some in-use files.
- Open with for *.bat and *.cmd files
- Batch files do not have the "Open With" option in Windows 10. Users can add the "Open With" entry to the context menu of BAT files using a new option in Winaero Tweaker. This can be done with one click.

- The "Elevated Shortcut" feature should not suffer from being opened on high-DPI screens and render its contents correctly.
