I think i did not disable any service in Obsidian First edition. I cannot be sure. Also, I do not have scanner to reproduce your situation. But there are a couple of services related to the scanner, printer, etc... like image acquisition services (2 to 3 services), and so on...
Make sure you did everything correctly on your side (connection, installation, etc.) Google the error that shows up. YOu simply give to little information

According to the list of removed components in the main thread and what I can remember scan should/must work.

I had no issues printing and scanning on a network printer with either obsidian v1 or v2. On two different networks with two different printers.
