Well, some people still use it. In MY current situation
I just might need it (as a last resort).
My desktop PC is a 64-bit Dell Dimension 9200 Dual-core with 4gb ram and a
Nvidia 2gb GeForce GTX 370 graphics card...
...this machine is designed for Windows XP but it is "Vista-Capable".
It is indeed a very old machine by today's PC standards.
In the past few years I've run Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and x64 with no problems.
But, in the past month my motherboard-integrated sound card stopped working!
I've tried reinstalling Win7 using almost every OS disc I have in my collection
(
the custom W7 OSes that I've d/loaded from this site about three years ago,
such as Blue Core and Crux... those discs work perfectly to this day)
...but, no matter what I tried, my sound card still fails to be recognized or installed by Windows.
I've tried many drivers for the sound card, still no luck.
The issue is HD Audio drivers, by the way. My graphics card installation disc was no help.
So... perhaps as a last resort I now have two options:
1 =
try Windows Vista... OR... 2 =
buy a new, separate sound card.
I have an old Vista disc buried in my CD/DVD stash somewhere, I'll find it.
I have the same sound card issue with my old laptop, but that is another topic.
I apologize for going off-topic with my sound card problem.
But to answer
bbbbburton's question, Yes some people still use Vista;
and now I just might need it as well, even if it's just to re-install my sound card.
I need to edit video footage of my band's live show, I can't do it without my sound card.
Hopefully Vista will resolve my situation.
If all else fails, then I will just buy a new sound card.
Cheers!
