Before the internet era and the various web sites, the only way that computer enthusiasts and professionals could get informed on new technologies
was through printed magazines.

Very few magazines can be considered as impactful in the computer science and technology field as the Byte Magazine.
Unlike other publications that were more or less focused on specific systems or professional/home users,
Byte covered developments in the entire field of small computers and software and sometimes on other computing fields such as supercomputers and high-reliability computing.

Reading the issues of this magazine is like looking back in time. It was there from the start of the computer revolution and covered all major developments in the computer and electronics field.
Early CP/M and MP/M OS, Unix systems, DOS, GEM, AmigaOS, macOS, Linux, and Windows among others all got featured in the pages of this magazine.
CPUs from Intel 8008, 8080, 8086/88, 286, 386, Motorola 6800, 68000, 68020, 68030, ARM, AMD, and others had an in-depth analysis of their capabilities.

The birth of microcomputers like the Altair, moving to home computers like Spectrum, Commodore and Amstrad. Early IBM PC and compatibles like Compaq,
the first Apple computer, Amiga, and Atari among other companies many that don't even exist anymore, all featured in those pages.

Programing languages and Algorithms were first introduced here, often by their creators. Unix and C by Dennis Ritchie, Windows, and languages by Bill Gates, Apple computers by Wozniak, Borland Turbo Basic and Turbo C, and many more. Algorithms and techniques like data compression, hash tables, assembly system programming, and others, sparked the light in young wannabe programmers of those years.

Technologies that we now take for granted like Networks and the Internet, all had their baby steps done here, along with many pages of how to improve and make them work better. The first Hard disks of 5-10 MBs (yes, yes), the first color laser and inkjet printers, Color LCD monitors, and Wifi to name a few looked simply amazing and unthinkable at that time.

A small paragraph should be devoted to Bytes covers. From 1975 to 1986 Byte covers usually featured the artwork of Robert Tinney. These covers made Byte visually unique. In 1987 Tinney's paintings were replaced by product photographs but those early works of art inspired a lot of new artists.

Looking at the predictions and expectations that were made 30 to 50 years ago, is one of the most amusing things to read, especially when we realize how wrong (or sometimes how right) they were. Never forget the famous quote, "Users won't need more than 1mb of RAM". Some of the Adds are also very interesting as they clearly show where we were, compared to where we are now, and how much improvement we made in such a short time.

Byte started in 1975, shortly after the first personal computers appeared as kits advertised in the back of electronics magazines. Byte was published monthly, with an initial yearly subscription price of $10. Print publication ceased in 1998.

In this post, I plan to share the first 11 years of Byte magazines in high-resolution scans. Some of those are almost 350-400mb in size.
Due to the total size (17.7 Gb total) I will upload them 1 year at the time and only on Mega.nz. Later on, other sources will be added.

I will start with the 1975 and 1976 issues and keep checking periodically as I will update this post with the rest of the years. Files are in PDF format so there is no need for virus scan.
