I think you need to fine the gif image url and insert that somehow. I havent tried it here only on other sites.. Let me know,okay

Yes you can use Gif (Animation Avatar. you may see my Avatar.
It is recommended that you use an image that is at least 200x200 pixels. png, gif, jpeg.
You have ''Browse'' option to select image. if you don't? then Power user have that ability to use it.
You can check if that is possible for you. Click > Profile > Avatar
