Tutorials Setting Up Two Step Verification

Two step verification is an optional feature that provides additional security for your account. You should use it if you want the best security for your account.
We suggest that you bookmark this thread so that you can find it quickly if you ever need it. You might find it useful to print a copy.

There are three types of verification that you can choose from:

1. Verification by email.
2. Verification with a phone verification app such as Google Authenticator or Authy.
3. Verification with a Windows verification app such as WinAuth.

If you have problems receiving emails from TeamOS then try the phone app or Windows app method.

Here are summaries of the set-up processes for each method.
If you need pictures then they are in the spoilers.

VERIFICATION BY EMAIL​

1. Click your user name (in the top right corner of any page page) and go to your "Password and Security" page.
2. Click the two step verification "Change" button.
3. Enter your user name and password. Then click "Confirm".
4. Select the the "Email confirmation" option. Click its "Enable" button.
5. An email will be sent to your registered email address containing a confirmation code. Copy the code into the "Email confirmation code" box. Then click "Confirm".
6. Cut and paste the back-up codes into a text document and save it in a safe place. Then click the "I have saved the backup codes" button.

If you don't see an email from TeamOS then check your junk mail folder.
The site email server can sometimes be slow to send emails. You may have to wait for an hour or more for it to arrive.

It is IMPORTANT that you save your back-up codes BEFORE you click the "I have saved the backup codes" button.

Allowed Email Domains​

Not all email domains work well with our site.

OUTLOOK, MSN, LIVE & HOTMAIL ACCOUNTS DO NOT WORK WELL WITH OUR SITE.
If you have registered here with one of these Microsoft email accounts then use an authentication app on your phone or computer.
You cannot use a Microsoft email account to set up two step verification because you will not receive our emails.

These email providers generally work well. Other email providers may cause problems.

VERIFICATION BY PHONE APP​

If you don't already have one, first install a verification app such as Google Authenticator or Authy.

1. Click your user name (in the top right corner of any page page) and go to your "Password and Security" page.
2. Click the two step verification "Change" button.
3. Enter your user name and password. Then click "Confirm".
4. Select the the "Verification code via app" option. Click its "Enable" button.
5. Scan the QR code with your verification app. Copy the code from the app into the "Verification code" box. Then click "Confirm".
6. Cut and paste the back-up codes into a text document and save it in a safe place. Then click the "I have saved the backup codes" button.

It is IMPORTANT that you save your back-up codes BEFORE you click the "I have saved the backup codes" button.

The code displayed by the verification app may change quite quickly. If you are not fast enough when you copy its code to the site then the two step verification set-up will fail.
If that happens then you can try entering a different code. Wait for the verification app to display a new code and copy it quickly into the "Verification code" box. Then click "Confirm" again.

just login on Firefox, been occuring the last few days, since we enforced the 2 step verification

I have always used Firefox and have always used the email version of 2 step verification since I became staff. I have never seen that.

just the basic email one!

I've seen errors like that before I returned, but not since I've been back for the last 6 or so months. I've also been using 2FA for years with very few problems over that time. I also mostly use FireFox.

I've seen errors like that before I returned, but not since I've been back for the last 6 or so months. I've also been using 2FA for years with very few problems over that time. I also mostly use FireFox.

I refreshed the browser and issue it's gone... maybe an error within the last update!
