Looking for a reliable and powerful disk catalog software to organize your huge collection of disks?

WinCatalog 2020 disk cataloger is a perfect solution! On the market since 2001.

An ability to add disks, folders, and individual files to your catalog

By using WinCatalog 2020, you have 3 options for adding file content: add the entire disks to the catalog; add specific folders without a need to scan the whole disk contents; and individual files.
WinCatalog scans disks or folders, remembers each file and preserves the entire nested hierarchical folder structure.

When you add a disk or a folder to the catalog you can assign a disk number that is automatically incremented with every new disk and a physical location
After adding a disk or folder you can see the complete tree structure on the left and the contents of the selected folder in the middle panel.
When you select a file or a group of files you can immediately see the most important properties in the right panel. The set of the displayed properties depends on an item type. For example, for a picture it displays the general properties, file details, and info grabbed from Exif tags. The thumbnail preview is also shown for pictures, and the preview will be shown even if the original disk or file is unavailable at the moment.
On the screenshot below you can see how it works for digital photographs, for other types of files it works similarly. In the next section below you can also find what types of files are suported by WinCatalog and what information about these files can be stored in your catalog automatically.

All types of files are indexed, including extracting additional information from various types of files (archives, photos, images, video, music, e-books, PDF, hmtl, txt)

WinCatalog adds every file found on your disks to the catalog while preserving the original tree hierarchy of the nested folders and remembering the files' attributes: path, size, dates of creation and modification, etc. By default, it skips system folders such as $Recycle.Bin and others but you can turn this option off in the program's options.

In addition to common file attributes, WinCatalog 2020 can process and grab more info for the following types of files:

  • It parses the archives' contents and adds all the files from inside the archives to the catalog. The supported archives are: Zip (including the new Zipx), Rar/Rar5, and 7zip.
  • In the same way WinCatalog 2020 parses the contents of ISO disk images (ISO, NRG).
  • It extracts ID3 tags for music files (Artist name, Album title, Cover image (see the picture on the right), and Composition name, etc.) and meta data (bitrate, duration, etc.) from music files: MP3, FLAC, WAV, WMA, OGG, OGA, ASF, M4A, M4B, M4P, and MP4.
  • One of the most advanced features: WinCatalog grabs picture thumbnails for the most popular image formats and makes them available for preview without a connection to the original files! The supported types are: JPEG, PNG, BMP, ICO, GIF, Tiff, WMF, and EMF.
  • WinCatalog also grabs thumbnails from Adobe Photoshop (PSD, PSB) files, Encapsulated PostScript files (EPS), and from Scalable Vector Graphic files (SVG).
  • In addition to picture thumbnails, WinCatalog grabs Exif tags from digital photos including comments, resolution, camera model, focal length, and other metrics.
  • WinCatalog supports RAW image files produced by all modern digital cameras: RAW, CR2, CRW, NEF, TIF, NRW, KDC, RAF, PEF, MRW, 3FR, DCR, DNG, ERF, ARW, ORF, MEF, MOS, RW2, SR2, and others.
  • WinCatalog grabs thumbnails and basic media information (duration, resolution, audio channels, etc) for almost all formats of video files, including AVI, MKV, TS, MP4, MOV, the professional MXF format, and others.
  • For eBooks WinCatalog extracts a name, a description, a list of authors and the cover image. The supported formats are Epub, Mobi, FB2.
  • WinCatalog keeps a piece or every text file, which helps you to preview the file without the need to physically insert the disk.
  • WinCatalog parses HTML pages (HTML, HTM files) and grabs the title and tags of these pages.
  • For PDF files Wincatalog creates thimbnail for the first page.

Unlimited number of disks, folders, and files

Using WinCatalog 2020 you can catalog as many disks, files, and folders as you want. WinCatalog uses an industry standard database engine SQLite in the core. That is why it operates quickly regardless of how many records (files, folders, and disks) your catalog has: hundreds, thousands, many, or even more.

Adding virtual folders and moving items between them

Using WinCatalog 2020 you can create virtual (blue) folders' structure and move your files, folders, and disks into these folders. Use of virtual (blue) folders makes your collection more structured.
You can drag disks, folders, or individual files into these folders without losing a connection to the physical disk structure.
In the picture shown below you can see the "Panoramic" virtual folder that contains panoramic photos from various disks.

Managing tags and associating them with individual files, disks, or folders

For better data representation you can tag your items and use as many tags as you wish. Spent a week on a vacation? Tag all photos from there using, say, 2 tags: "Vacation" and "2014". If you stored a movie, you may tag it by genre and by the year of production. If you have cataloged documents you may want to tag them by using a client, company name, or a division.
Furthermore, in some cases WinCatalog creates tags automatically. For example, when it scans a music folder and grabs ID3 tags it creates tags for Artists' names and links these tags with files. Full automation: you do not need to type anything or even click anywhere!
In the picture below you can see the tags that were created for music files. All the tags were automatically grabbed and linked with files when WinCatalog cataloged a disk or a music folder.

Searching using simple natural queries or powerful search operators

Using WinCatalog 2020 you can search through your entire collection and find in seconds exactly what you're looking for.
Use natural search or be more concrete using special search operators, brackets, and quotes.

An ability to filter search results

When the search is done you can filter the results, no matter how many results it contains. Use the search filter to see files and folders matching one or more specific criteria.
You can filter results by type, size, date (or a range of dates) when files were created or modified.
More advanced filters help to limit the search depth or display results located on a certain disk or in a specified catalog folder.
